Veggie Pizza

Veggie Pizza

This is a wonderful appetizer for any get together. It is very easy to make and can be made a few days ahead of time.It does well when traveling. It is very light and easy to carry. There are only a few ingredients and everyone loves it.

Start with a package of crescent rolls and more than one if you are making it for a bigger party. They work best on a cookie sheet or flat pan. Roll them out and press them together so there is a single layer of one big sheet. Bake crescent rolls per package instructions.

Completely cool before starting to assemble.

Mix ½ of rectangle of cream cheese and ½ cup sour cream together.Add a package of dry Ranch dressing mix.If it doesn’t look like enough to cover crescent rolls you can mix a little more.Spread on cooled crescent rolls.

Finely chop any or all of the following ingredients to top you pizza.

Celery, onion, cauliflower, broccoli, peppers, olives and cucumbers.Shred some carrots and use finely shredded cheese of any flavor (regular shredded cheese will work just fine).

Next is to dress you pizza with the veggies.

Sprinkle veggies over crescent rolls then layer shredded carrots and cheese. Cut with a pizza cutter into small squares.

Refrigerate any leftovers.

Enjoy

Raw Deal Menomonie Wisconsin

Raw Deal Menomonie Wisconsin

We stopped in to get a quick breakfast on a Thursday morning and there was not much offered.  We had never been in this restaurant before and we weren't sure what they offered besides coffee.  The girl who helped us didn't offer any advise.  So we left with a muffin and I got coffee.  Now lets talk about the coffee.  It was truly the best coffee I have ever tasted.  It is roasted in house and you can truly taste the difference.  A must visit when you are in Menomonie Wisconsin or even close.

Pink Bakery Door County Wisconsin

Pink Bakery Door County Wisconsin

The Pink Bakery is the cutest thing I have seen and is nestled next to the Egg Harbor Bay in Wisconsin.

The treats that were offered looked amazing and the coffee was really good.  They had bakery items and cakes and pies.  They offer catering on their website and make wedding cakes as well.  Most breads and scones are made daily.

They were voted best of Door County in 2014 for the second year in a row.

We got a Molasses Cookie and a Carmel Roll and tasted out of this world.  We enjoyed it in the park overlooking Egg Harbor Bay.  Great cup of coffee, carmel Roll and the view are by far the best breakfast I have enjoyed it a long time.

Salsa

This salsa can be made without measuring cups and spoons. Salsa can be made as spicy as you would like. You can use only the veggies you like. It only takes 5 minutes to make. Salsa can be low in fat and high in vitamins and can be put on everything from eggs to celery. So here goes.

Nutritional Value of Tomatoes

Salsa

To make this Salsa you will need a food processor or a food chopper.

Put in the food chopper 2 cans of tomatoes with green chillies after draining off excess fluid or without if you don't want it too spicy. Then cut up half a pepper what ever color you like. It can be more than half if you would like. On top add cilantro as much as you would like. This recipe will be trial and error till you find the combination of veggies and salt that you like.

Chop until you are at the consistency you like.

I usually taste the Salsa at this point to see if it needs more salt or cilantro. What is nice about homemade Salsa is that if you need to watch your salt intake you can add just a little or no salt and it still will taste great. The salsa is done at this point and ready to eat. You will need to refrigerate any leftovers. It will keep for up to a week. You will never go back to store bought again because it is so easy to make.

Enjoy this salsa recipe and add diner life to your favorites.

Door County Brewing Company in Baileys Harbor Wisconsin

Door County Brewing Company in Baileys Harbor Wisconsin

During our trip to Door County Wisconsin we visited the Door County Brewing Company.  They had a beer tasting that we thought was very fun.  The Tap Room hours are Mon & Tue 1pm–10pm and Wed-Sun 11am–10pm.  For $12 you got 6 samples of the different beers they brew in Baileys Harbor Wisconsin.

Our favorite at the Door County Brewing Company was the Polk King- a Porter brewed with Pale Chocolate Malts & English Hops.  The beer was named after a legendary figure in Door County.  Freddie Kodanko was a dancing, laughing character who loved polka, his red tractor and of course beer.  We could bring is boom box on his tractor to the local bar and play polka music for everyone in the bar.  It is a darker beer but has no bitter taste like other beers in this category.

Next was the Door County Brewing Company's Little Sister is brewed with Belgian Pilsner malt and wheat. Little Sister is spiced with coriander and orange peel.  This beer is named for the smaller of the two islands outside of Sister Bay, Wisconsin.  Sister is a reflection of the relaxed, laid back atmosphere of Door County in the summer.

Our third choice at the Door County Brewing Company was the Pastoral Farmhouse Ale which has hints of pepper, citrus and green grass.  Don’t ask how they make it taste like green grass but is it very good and has a flavor all its own.  This beer was created for the everyday man with dirt underneath his fingernails.  A true celebration of seasons.

Most of the visit at Door County Brewing Company was really good.  It was so crowded and there was no order to it all.  We were never sure where to order and where we could sit.  We finally made our way to the bar and had our brewing selections but the waitress was very busy so was not very helpful.  We didn’t stick around long but the beer was exceptional.

Door County Brewing Company offers events and bands for you entertainment pleasure and the inside is very cozy.  Below is the webpage for you to check out the details on you own.

Excelsior Big Island Blonde Beer

We traveled to Stillwater Minnesota last weekend and I tried a local beer.

We sat on the patio of the Freight House overlooking the St. Croix River. The view was fantastic and the atmosphere was very festive.   The wait staff seemed very helpful.  There website with hours, location and events calendar is below.

Excelsior Big Island Blonde Beer

I tried the Excelsior Big Island Blonde Beer on tap. This is brewed in Excelsior Minnesota. The website gives the following times for the tap room and tours in case you are interested in touring it. The beer was a little hoppy but has a very fruitful favor. The Big Island Blonde Beer reminded me of a Blue Moon with the fruity flavor. Great refreshing summer flavored beer with a hint of orange or lemon.  Some other beers the Freight House had on tap are below.

Enjoy the Excelsior Big Island Blonde Beer.

Bloody Marys at No Neck Tony's in Stillwater

Bloody Mary Drink at No Neck Tony's

We stopped in at No Neck Tony's in Stillwater Minnesota to have a few drinks Saturday night.  We saw a Bloody Mary being served and it looked very interesting so we ordered.  No Neck Tony's is known for the best Bloody Mary.

No Neck Tony's Bloody Marys had lots of everything on it.  On top of the Bloody Mary drink there were olives, an onion, beef stick, pickle, celery, carrot stick, beef stick, hot pepper, pretzel stick, pretzel twist, cheese, a mushroom, and some seasoned peanuts in a small dish for snacking.

The No Neck Tony's Bloody Mary came with a beer chaser so I ordered the Lift Bridge Seasonal brewed locally in Stillwater Minnesota and I was very disappointed with the flavor.  It taste very chemical almost like bug spray.  The bartender was very nice and exchange it for a Shock Top Lemon Shandy which is always a great summer tasting beer.

The Bloody Mary at No Neck Tony's in Stillwater Minnesota is truly the best drink in town.

Bailey's Grove Camp Ground Door County WI

Baileys Grove Camp Ground Door County

We were on vacation in Door County Wisconsin in late July and decided to tent camp at Baileys Gove Camp Ground in Baileys Harbor WI, Door County.

The Baileys Grove Campground was very clean and the other campers were very respectful.  The best part was they had very clean restrooms and showers.  Just is always a must when you are tent camping.  We bought ice from the office and it was very reasonable.

Baileys Grove Campground in Door County offered coffee after they open at 8am and popcorn after 7pm up to office close which is at 8pm.

Baileys Grove Campground has DVDs, bunch of books and game that you can borrow for the whole family.

Baileys Grove Campground office has some video games and a pool table for the young adults in you party.  The pool looked very refreshing and was gated after hours.  We didn't have time to use it but it was a popular place in the afternoon for campers.

We had a fire every night and one night cooked some local corn on the cob in an open fire.  We took the husks off and coated them with butter and seasoning.  Wrapping them in tin foil we let them on the open fire for about 20 minutes turning them often.  Be careful they don't burn. They were delicious.

This Door County  campground was centrally located between Baileys Harbor Wisconsin and Fish Creek Wisconsin in the heart of Door County WI.

The women in the office was very nice and told us of some not on the map places to see.
One place she told us to go see was the Cave Point Co Park in Baileys Harbor Wisconsin Door County.  It was a walk along path next to Lake Michigan.  We went down on the shore and walked among the rock sculptures.  They were so neat and each one was different.  A must see if you are in the area.

I loved this Baileys Harbor campground and would go back in a heartbeat.  Please try Baileys Grove Campground if you are headed to Door County in Baileys Harbor WI.

Mickey’s Diner St. Paul Minnesota

We went to lunch at Mickey’s Dining Car which just down the street from where I work in St. Paul Minnesota.  We were seated right away at the counter which is here I love to sit to watch them prepare the meals.  Below is some history on Mickey's.

Mickey's Dining Car was Placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983

Mickey’s Diner was designed to resemble the railroad dining cars of the period. It is unique in that it is one of the first diners to be built in the Art Deco style. Mickey’s Dining Car was manufactured in New Jersey and shipped by rail on a flat bed to its present location.

I ordered the One Eye Jack which was a toasted ham, cheese, and egg sandwich.  I ordered it with fries instead of hash browns.

The fries were crunchy but didn’t drip of oil like some fries.  The sandwich came with a large piece of ham, two slices of cheese grilled with a fried egg on top.  The sandwich had a wonderful flavor and was well worth the $9 I paid for it.

My friend ordered the sausage omelet with hash browns and toast.  I noticed they put the eggs in a stainless steal malt shop cup and mixed them with an ice cream mixer for 3 minutes.  It must by why they are so fluffy.  They put the eggs into a small pan and flip it once, load it with sausage and fold it over.

It was a big fat omelet stuffed with big chunks of sausage.  She had way too much food for one person and maybe two people.  Here meal was about the same $11.

The cook was very funny and made us all laugh more than once.  It was hypnotizing to watch him cook all of the orders at one time keeping everything straight.  It is a wonder that the staff doesn’t get hurt working together because of the close corners they share while performing their jobs.

Mickey’s Diner is a definite must do if you are in the town of St. Paul Minnesota.
